Zently is a consumer platform, delivered through native mobile and web apps, to enable landlords and renters. Zently’s foundation facilitated communication, payment and tracking between landlords and tenants. We then expanded to build a tenant report for landlords that helped examine tenant’s trustworthiness on elements surpassing a credit score. This enabled those renters with no credit to obtain housing.
Rent Payment Setup
We wanted to improve one of the first experiences users would be introduced to when opening the app. As a core feature, it was important to set up rent payments. Not only did this set up reoccurring payments for our users, it also linked landlords and other roommates to the household, thus building the user’s network and easing communication between all parties.
The existing solution utilized a chatbot feature which was not optimal for understandability and task completion. I built an experience changing from a chatbot to a form — allowing us to promote this experience more prominently.
In addition, this new system identified the core process from the additional steps such as SMS OTP (device verification) and Identity Verification. This new system also allowed users to exit and pick-up where they left off — minimizing the need for repeat steps.
Profile Complete
Zently provided a variety of tools to help renters and tenants keep on top of their home. To help educate users on the benefits of Zently, we created a profile complete that provided insights to the key features of the app. Guiding the user through the basics helped them build great habits around household expenses.
Credit Reporting
Zently provided the ability to report user’s good rent payment habits to credit bureaus. This feature was extremely helpful to those individuals who have no-or-thin credit files which usually cause problems when trying to apply for credit or housing.

We know staying on top of your expenses each month can be challenging. Unforeseen events can have you trying to make ends meet. Zently offered small, short term lending that helped users when they needed it most.
