Zently is a consumer platform, delivered through native mobile and web apps, to enable landlords and renters. Zently’s foundation facilitated communication, payment and tracking between landlords and tenants. We then expanded to build a tenant report for landlords that helped examine tenant’s trustworthiness on elements surpassing a credit score. This enabled those renters with no credit to obtain housing.
ground up for landlords and property managers
The use cases for Landlords are quite different from those of Renters. Although Landlords could manage a single property with Zently, we also needed to cater to property managers with many units or homes, each with their set of tenants. But even before tenants move in, we helped Landlords find ideal candidates with a property listing, application, and a exclusive renter report that looked at a wider array of factors that went far beyond just a credit score.

Information architecture
After signing up and onboarding, we needed to work out the information architecture, page templates and regions. From the highest level, it made sense to manage properties or people.
I chose a split-panel view as this would allow for a primary navigation along the left with plenty of content on the right.
A new filtering system allows the landlord to find a property or applicant with ease.
Renter Application
When individuals or parties find a property they are interested in renting, they can apply directly from Zently’s listing page. Their application gets passed along to the landlord or property manager where they could review the application.
RENTER Screening Report
One of Zently’s primary goals is to make housing more accessible. The problem with traditional rental applications is that it mostly weights on a credit score. For renters who have no-or-thin credit file, this could prevent them from accessing housing. (For landlords, credit scores don’t let them know what type of renter their applicant is.)

From the Find Tenants dashboard, you can track all applicants and leads, plus manage and propagate your listing.

Once tenants have been accepted, it’s a breeze to keep track of rent payments, payment sources, and fix-it issues for your property.
Fix-It Requests
Renters can submit problems with the property directly from the Zently mobile app. Once submitted, landlords can communicate and take action from their dashboard.
